Showcasing artefacts discovered and uncovered during archaeological excavations in the Port Macquarie CBD, with a particular focus on the Clarence Street area. Each piece tells a story about the daily lives of local people. Unlike today, there was no weekly garbage collection.  Domestic rubbish was thrown on site into pits or used as compost. Discover forgotten gems from our past.

Barayal Bila  (River Song) shares a story of Dungang ‘Hastings River’ by Dr. Aunty Rhonda Radley and acknowledges our beautiful woter ways from the mountains to the sea.    
Supported by Powerhouse as part of the Extending Storyplace project with Museums and Galleries of NSW.

FIBRE FLAIR! 

A temporary exhibition of works by Port Macquarie U3A Textile & Fibre Artists inspired by remarkable objects in our collection. The artists have reimagined historical items using fibre techniques, form and materials. A NSW Seniors Festival event supported by a NSW Seniors Festival Grant from the NSW Government. Ends 30 June 2025.

Bounce, Roll and Strike celebrates ball sports: including tennis, cricket, bowls, rugby, hockey and golf. Featuring sporting uniforms and equipment from the past, and trophies, medals and other keepsakes marking the achievements of local sports teams and individuals.

Our Cabinet of Curiosity is inspired by an old practice of displaying collections in Cabinets of Curiosities. In this display we share items and their stories associated with learning, exploration, discovery, nature and creativity.

CONFLICTS & CREATIVITY


Featuring the creativity and patriotism of service personnel, their friends and families, prisoners of war, civilians and communities during wars and conflicts. This exhibition showcases the ingenuity of people during times of conflicts to keep their hands and minds occupied and their hopes for the future alive. Supported by a Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grant through the Australian Government's Department of Veterans' Affairs.

MONO COUTURE
 

This exhibition explores fashion and design through custom-made historic and contemporary clothing within a black and white theme from the Port Macquarie Museum's collection. It is a tribute to dressmakers, tailors, needleworkers, patternmakers and milliners. The exhibition is supported by Arts Mid North Coast through the NSW Government's Country Arts Support Program.

The online exhibition has been developed by AMaGA – MNC Chapter with the support of a NSW Heritage Community Heritage – Community Engagement grant and the valuable contributions of MNC museums, heritage places and Arts Mid North Coast.
